Overview

The Commercial Loan Closer Team Lead supervises a small group of Commercial Loan Closers and monitors workflow processes to ensure loan production activities run smoothly and efficiently.  Actively facilitates communication on status of loan production workflow with the Division Loan Production Manager, Loan Documentation and Quality Assurance teams, and Lending Origination staff.  Supports the Division Loan Production Manager with improving operational processes to mitigate identified risk concerns, increase efficiencies, and enhance the functionality and ease of use. 

The Team Lead’s primary focus is on ensuring that the Commercial Loan Closing staff meet service level standards (customer service; turn-around time; risk management and regulatory compliance; audit soundness; and productivity and efficiency).    In addition to performing supervisory responsibilities, the Team Lead regularly performs the duties and activities of a Commercial Loan Closers (they have their own lending teams/customer portfolio).  Serves as the first point of contact for Commercial Loans Closers for issue escalation and assists staff with complex loan processing situations.

The Loan Support Team Lead typically supervises a small group of employees (1-5).

Responsibilities

  • Supervises Commercial Loan Closers in their performance of daily tasks, holding them accountable for qualitative and quantifiable results.  Monitors and reports on Service Level Standards performance and other KPI’s.  Coordinates and distributes work between individuals based on active and accurate understanding of their ability and experience, and the team and individual’s workload pipelines.
  • Provides technical support and assistance to Commercial Loan Closers, helping to troubleshoot, and determines how and when to escalate issues; ensures staff perform their activities in compliance with bank policies and procedures, and that documentation is accurate and properly maintained.
  • Processes loan requests prepared by Lending Origination Officers.  Prepares loan packages for review by loan officers. Interviews prospective applicants and requests specified information related to loan or credit application; corresponds or re-interviews applicants to resolve questions regarding application information.
  • Provides supervision to and directs the activities of the Commercial Loan Closing staff; performs supervisory tasks such as performance appraisals, disciplinary actions and interviewing candidates for employment; develops work schedules, provides necessary training and coaching.
  • Assists Division Loan Production Manager on loan quality reporting, audit material preparation, and special projects. Support Loan Administration management in the development of new and revised procedures, methods, and forms that related to loan production and note servicing.

Qualifications

  • Bachelor’s degree from a four-year college or university and 3 or more years of related experience or a combination of education and work experience.  Or a high school diploma and 8 or more years of related experience, education and/or training.
  • Intermediate to Advanced knowledge of lending regulations and closing procedures, title and insurance policies required, etc.  Knowledge of loan types including specialty lending- hypothecation, mortgage warehouse, syndication, municipal and homebuilder finance/borrowing base administration are a plus.
  • Intermediate computer operational skills required.
  • Previous experience supervising a small group of employees preferred.
