Overview

The position of Senior Appraiser supports and administers the appraisal process within the bank.  The position will report to and work directly with the bank’s Chief Appraiser.  Responsibilities will include review and administering appraisal requests submitted to the bank’s Appraisal Department, selection and engagement of fee appraisers, and review of appraisals submitted to the bank.  The Senior Appraiser will interact closely with the bank’s Lending Groups and personnel, providing guidance and a high level of customer service, while insuring strict compliance with state and federal regulatory guidelines and bank policies.

Responsibilities

  • Administers the commercial appraisal process from initial service requests and assignment definition; and tracking the assignment through the review process and closing of the assignment file.  Initiates and manages appraisal assignment files. 
    • Responsible for accurate and timely processing of requests for real estate related services. 
    • Reviews supporting collateral information and obtains additional information from various sources to process requests. 
    • Monitors all new and in-process requests to maintain accurate reporting and adherence to committed turn-around times.
    • Exhibits high level of quality control to ensure process efficiency and completion. 
  • Solicits bids, prepares contracts for both the appraisal and/or the review of appraisals.  Acts as liaison between appraisers, loan officers, credit administrators, and reviewers – implementing and maintaining an assignment tracking process to ensure contractual deadlines are being met. 
  • Coordinates with loan officers to obtain documentation and supplemental information for the appraisers. 
  • Creates and maintains various forms and contracts required to facilitate the appraisal ordering, reviewing, and reporting functions. 
  • Work with the Chief Apparaiser to insure vendor files for both the approved commercial and residential appraisers are appropriately maintained, noting the business footprint and area of expertise of each. 
  • Assists with internal appraisal policy and regulatory compliance through knowledge and thorough understanding of internal policies, FIRREA (Financial Institutional Reform, Recovery, and Enforcement Act), Interagency Guidelines (FDIC, OCC, OTS, etc), and USPAP (Uniform Standards of Professional Appraisal Practice). 
  • Extensive and sometimes complex data entry into the Appraisal Department’s computer based reporting platform.  Use of multiple online systems including but not limited to Outlook, Excel and Word. 
  • Facilitates transfers of appraisal reports to and from other financial institutions. 
  • Utilizes intranet interface to ensure enterprise-wide distribution of forms and reports/reviews.
  • Generates monthly/year end reports and administers file retention (on and off site), assignment repository, and appraisal/review archiving.

Qualifications

  • Bachelor’s degree (BA) from a four (4) year college or university, or four (4) or more years of related experience and/or training; or the equivalent combination of education and experience.  Work related experience should consist of an in-depth background in the commercial appraisal process.  Educational experience, through in-house training sessions, formal school or financial industry related curriculum, should be applicable to the real estate or financial industry. 
  • Professional Licenses & Certifications: Certified General Real Estate Appraiser in good standing. 
  • Extensive experience, knowledge and training in all lending activities related to the appraisal of complex properties and interests. 
  • Ability to read, analyze and interpret general business periodicals, professional journals, and technical procedures. 
  • Advance knowledge of related state and federal lending and compliance regulations, and other Bank lending policies.
  • Ability to provide a multitude of administrative services related to the ordering and management of appraisal services. 
  • Demonstrate strong analytical and project management skills for a variety of tasks or projects. 
  • Ability to deal with difficult problems involving multiple facets, variables in non-standardized situations. 
  • Excellent organizational and time management skills.
