  • Overview

    The position of Credit Analyst is responsible for spreading, managing, analyzing and maintaining client financial information using Moody’s RiskAnalyst software and Bukers Taxanalalysis software packages in preparation for underwriting routine, difficult or complex commercial business and equipment loans, real estate secured loans, and SBA loans in compliance with the Bank’s lending policies and procedures.

     

    The position may also participate in developing credit studies for the Loan Officers, Chief Credit Officer and other Executive Management and well as performing special financial statement analyses, typically involving complex and interlocking relationships. The position also renders assistance to lending officers on credit matters and loans involving unusual situations or requiring close scrutiny

    Responsibilities

    • Renders assistance to lending officers on credit matters and loans involving unusual situations or requiring close scrutiny.
    • May perform prequalification assessments and analysis of financial condition and risk of financing requests within framework of Bank culture and current economic and industry trends.
    • Consistently applies good decision making techniques pertaining to inquiries, approvals, and requests as they apply to existing policies and procedures.
    • Develops and maintains knowledge of financial industry, economy, market conditions, rates, vendors and competition.
    • Understands business implications of decisions, displays orientation to profitability, demonstrates knowledge of market and competition and aligns work with strategic goals.
    • Complies with Bank Secrecy Act (“BSA”), OFAC Anti-Money Laundering (“AML”), and US PATRIOT ACT policies, procedures.
    • Assures compliance with all Bank policies and procedures, as well as all applicable, state and federal banking regulations.
    • Participate in required annual BSA/AML/OFAC and Compliance training.
    • Operates computer terminal or personal computer to obtain and process data.
    • Maintains strict confidentiality of all records and data received and produced.

    • Assists in the preparation of any reports required from Credit Administration.
    • May perform industry analysis and provide recommendations.
    • Informs Chief Credit Officer and/or Loan Officers of relevant trends of specific loans, portfolios or industries as needed.  

    Qualifications

    These specifications are general guidelines based on the minimum experience normally considered essential to the satisfactory performance of this position. The requirements listed below are representative of the knowledge, skill and/or ability required to perform the position in a satisfactory manner. Individual abilities may result in some deviation from these guidelines.

     

    • Bachelor’s degree (BA) from a four (4) year college or university or the equivalent combination of education and experience. Work related experience should consist of an in-depth background in financial statement analysis and/or loan underwriting. Educational experience, through in-house training sessions, formal school or financial industry related curriculum, should be applicable to the financial industry.
    • Experience, knowledge and training in financial statement and tax return analysis typically resulting from a combination of education in accounting, financial and/or credit analysis or related areas.
    • Ability to read, analyze and interpret general business periodicals, professional journals, and technical procedures.
    • Knowledge of related state and federal lending and compliance regulations, and other Bank lending policies.
    • Ability to spread large, complex financial statements and tax returns and complete cash flow forecasting commensurate to any loan request.
    • Knowledge of general human resource and labor laws and policies.
    • Intermediate skills in computer terminal and personal computer operation, mainframe computer (ITI) system, software programs of diverse functionality used by the Bank, including but not limited to, desktop applications and administrative programs and resources.
    • Intermediate typing skills to meet production needs of the position.
    • Intermediate math skills; calculate interest and balance accounts; add, subtract, multiply and divide in all units of measure, using whole numbers, common fractions and decimals; locate routine mathematical errors; and compute rate, ratio and percent, including the drafting and interpretation of bar graphs.
    • Effective oral, written and interpersonal communication skills with the ability to apply common sense to carry out instructions and instruct others, train personnel, interpret documents, understand procedures, write reports, correspondence and procedures, and speak clearly to customers and employee 
    • Demonstrate strong analytical and project management skills for a variety of tasks or projects.
    • Ability to deal with difficult problems involving multiple facets, variables in nonstandard situations.
    • Excellent organizational and time management skills.

    • Ability to work with minimal or no supervision while performing duties.

    • Current state issued driver’s license and a vehicle with appropriate insurance coverage if required to drive in the course of performing assigned duties and responsibilities.
