  • Overview

    The Associate Audit Director-ERM and Corporate Functions will be responsible for planning, executing and delivering various audits of Enterprise Risk Management across Bank operations and corporate functions (i.e. Human Resources, Legal, Marketing & Advertising, etc). The individual will evaluate processes and internal controls for adherence to bank policies and procedures, compliance with federal and state banking regulations, and for risk to the overall organization. The position will assist identifying root causes of identified issues to strengthen and/or improve controls. This role reports to the Audit Director and will be a leader in our department. This position is responsible for overseeing and reviewing Supervisor’s and subordinate’s work, including reporting of the results of audits, projects and special assignments.


    The Associate Audit Director promotes risk awareness in the enterprise through positive and collaborative relationships with department heads, business leadership, and staff. In addition to audit execution, the Associate Audit Director-ERM and Corporate Functions meets regularly with department heads and business leaders to discuss audits, assess risks, evaluate issue remediation progress, provide feedback, and gather insights on business activities.


    • Leads audits under the direction of the Internal Audit Director, which can include individual or multiple audit assignments and/or projects;
    • Manages less experienced auditors on one or multiple assignments;
    • Conducts comprehensive risk assessment and engagement planning;
    • Maintains audit software (TeamMate) to provide a well-documented and organized audit program and audit work papers;
    • Integrates SOX testing into the scope of audits as appropriate;
    • Coaches, trains, and develops audit staff to upgrade their knowledge. Reviews supervisor’s work to ensure compliance with stated requirements and objectives, IIA standards and internal audit procedures;
    • Develops, presents and assists in finalizing audit reports-- identifying risk based issues and mitigation strategies;
    • Follows up on the disposition of exceptions noted during audits, including internal, external and regulatory examination reports;
    • Develops a strong understanding of the business and industry, organizational structure, and regulatory environment;
    • Establishes & maintains relationships with the Company’s staff and management as well as external auditors through periodic and effective communication to facilitate proactive assessment of the Company’s risk profile;
    • Assesses personnel and individual development needs (i.e., training and career development) in conjunction with department management.


    • Significant experience with public financial services organizations and related front/back office operations;
    • Strong organizational, communication and interpersonal skills in order to work with all levels of management; 
    • Must be effective at communicating issues through written reports, verbal discussions and presentations;
    • A self-motivated, results-oriented professional with experience and success working in a collaborative environment;
    • Ability to deal with complex problems involving multiple facets and variables in non-standardized situations. Ability to define problems, collect data, establish facts, and draw valid conclusions;
    • Exceptional time management skills;
    • Undergraduate degree in Finance, Accounting, Business Administration or related area.  A graduate degree is a plus but not required;
    • Minimum eight+ (8+) years in the auditing or related field;
    • Three or more years in a managerial role;
    • Professional certification of Certified Internal Auditor (CIA), Certified Public Accountant (CPA), Certified Fraud Examiner (CFE), Certified Regulatory Compliance Manager (CRCM) or Certified Anti-Money Laundering Specialist (CAMS);
    • Detail-oriented and proficient in Microsoft Office applications;
    • Strong knowledge internal control analyses and risk assessment methodologies, COSO framework, Institute of Internal Auditor (IIA) standards, FRB Supervisory Letter 13-11 standards, generally accepted accounting principles, and/or Sarbanes-Oxley Section 302/402 requirements;
    • Prior experience in the banking industry and experience in the audit of related area;
    • Experience and conceptual knowledge of Enterprise Risk Management
    • Ability to travel regionally up to 20%.
